Shutting Down Astrology Slander

In order to give Astrology the credit it deserves, it is important to understand its history. The American Federation of Astrology, or AFA(bet you didn’t know that was a thing), shares that the Babylonians are usually referred to as the creators of Astrology. The AFA states that for the Babylonians, “astrology and astronomy were the same science.” So what changed? Why is astronomy still a respected science, but astrology isn’t?

A quick google search will lead you to numerous articles on astrology as a pseudoscience. To summarize, astrology is subjective and therefore cannot be considered science. One could argue that other sciences started off in the same position, but that too is subjective. Though that may be, I feel that it only makes one’s connection with astrology more personalized.

The magic of astrology is that it allows for you to connect with yourself and others more deeply. It promotes healthier communication, stronger empathy, and encourages one to forgive their past choices. Once you understand why you behave the way you do in certain situations, why your main love language is quality time, and why people always assume your shy or intimidating when they first meet you, the easier it is for you to grow and appreciate yourself as an individual.

However, wielding a bond with astrology can bring negative judgement and discredit you because of the connotations attached to it. People will assume you’re naïve or superstitious.

However, there are ways that this can change for the better. Sharing our knowledge on the subject is the most important. Understanding the impact our solar system has on us is the science that adds credibility. Normalizing birth charts the way horoscopes are would create a more open-minded society. Creating interactive apps would make people more inclined to try it for themselves. Feeding people’s curiosity on the matter also helps to start a change in the collective view of astrology.

Let’s start with the basics. The sign that your birthday falls under is your sun sign. This is determined by the position of the sun on the day of your birth. Each sign is grouped into a specific time frame (the attached article below can tell you yours). A sun sign refers to a description of your general characteristics and habits, life’s purpose, and your desires. It is the central hub for your unique astrological personality. Cafeastrology (one of my favorite sites for all things astrological) uses a great analogy. “Another way to think about the Sun is to imagine that it is your personality’s Boss.” While your sun sign is the “boss,” there are still other employees within your astrological configuration. If the description of your sun sign doesn’t seem to match up with how you perceive yourself, don’t let it dictate your views on astrology. We are complex beings and our astrological configuration is just as complex. We will dive into the complexities in future posts.

Taking the time to understand the various aspects of astrology can create a motion for change in the way astrology is perceived. Helping others understand through word of mouth, apps, and making birth charts more popular and accessible can create a bigger platform for astrology as a whole.

And even if you still think astrology is nothing more than a made up phenomenon, remember that at least it can be fun. Here’s an article you can read over to entertain the idea of what your sun sign says about you.
